Traceability can do that for you.
A Traceability system can give you detailed information about the olive oil or olives you see on the store shelves. The information can be accessed in many different ways, by sms, via internet, using a Q-r code or other type of codification and can go all the way back to the olive orchard and the producer himself. From the orchard to the store shelf everything that is to know about the product is recorded and electronically documented. The requirement of Food Traceability was set up by the E.U. In 2002 and is obligatory in all E.U. countries.
Why Traceability?
- For the safety of the consumer
2. For protecting the environment
3. For producing quality food
Traceability requires a lot of effort and considerable investment on the side of the producer, the agronomist and the industry but it protects the consumer and the environment
Benefits of a Traceability system
– Quality is documented.
– The food safety program is certified
– The food item produced complies with all pertinent regulations
– It is easy for the authorities to check the claims on the package
– It is very easy to withdraw unsatisfactory product from the market
What is the Greco–Italian collaboration?
The collaboration between Consorzio Nazionale degli Olivicoltori (C.N.O.) in Italy and thirteen Greek Producer’s Organisations aims at introducing a system of traceability in conformity with the norm 22005:08 and provide all the necessary support to their producers-members, olive presses and all involved in the production of olive oil or table olives so as to secure the production of high quality products based on a common approach.
The programme is approved by the respective Ministries and is co-funded by the European Union. It is run with the assistance of AXION AGROTIKI LTD (www.axionagro.eu) in Greece and C.N.O. (www.cno.it) in Italy.
